Being a mom, I follow other moms on Social Media. There is a camaraderie in motherhood that only a mom can understand and it’s great to not feel alone when you are hiding in the closet praying that your toddler won’t find you for two minutes.
Lately, I have been noticing a lot of people talking about the illnesses that are plaguing their families and I’m saddened about it, yes, but also I am surprised that it hasn’t hit us yet.
Honestly, in the last three years – my family has hardly gotten sick – I had to check the NyQuil bottles to double check the time frame.
I have never been a fan of man made medication – it’s readily available and the side effects usually outweigh the benefits. I’m that person that when you come to my house and you need some sort of medicine – I give you a homeopathic one.
Recently someone had a pretty nasty scratch from a cat on his arm and asked it we had anything for it – I made him a salve with honey, basil, and garlic. I’m that person.
Kaleb is the definition of a toddler boy. He’s always active, always outside, jumps in the puddles, eats dirt, all of it! I’m exhausted just trying to keep up with him – yet, we still don’t get sick.
The only thing I can think of is the fact that we avoid processed food, large amounts of sugar, and get our daily nutrients in.
While I’m on my fitness journey – I don’t think of my meals as ‘diet foods’ I eat the same food as anyone else, except I use proper portions and timed nutrition. With my meal plan we cut out processed foods and only consume natural sugars. (honey, maple syrup, fruit) Since I am NOT a short order cook – my family eats what I eat. They do have their fair share of ‘treats’ my husband always has candy and sweets tucked away in the house somewhere. My son, always has jelly and yogurts – I don’t deprive them of the things I don’t eat – but I also keep it at a minimum.
As for our daily nutrients, yes, we get it in the food that we eat – but have you ever tried to get all your nutrients in just by eating food? It’s hard, it’s expensive. Plus, try getting a toddler to eat ALL THAT FOOD.
Instead, we have our nutrient dense shakes. Kevin drinks his in the morning on his way to the office (Like 30 ft from home) he just mixes his whey based shake with water and a banana. I drink my plant based shake after my workouts to help recover my muscles, as I use mine as a meal replacement, I add Kale, ½ banana, Oatmeal, and Almond Milk to it.
Kaleb has his own Pediatrician Approved Shake after his cereal as a mid-day snack – I just mix it with water and he’s good to go! (Now until 3/31 you can save $30!)
In the last two years this nutrient dense shake has been the only difference we have made in our day to day life and though we all generally feel good and have more energy, I didn’t realize just how much it had to do with building up our immune systems until I read about all the illnesses that keep avoiding us.
This isn’t the first time that I have experienced something good coming from adding this shake into our daily diets read the testimonials below! If you have any questions, I would love to answer them for you! Comment below or e-mail me and I will get back to you as soon as possible!
“Before shakeology, I wasn’t maintaining my nutrients. I had to take iron and calcium pills on top of my prenatal vitamins.
